Water Park!

Brian, Steph and I went to Schlitterbahn on thursday of last week and spent the day riding waterslides and floating around the lazy river (which didn't turn out to be particularly lazy due to a wave generator).

Some photos of the waterpark:

Brian got some Dippin Dots, which I'm told are still the ice cream of the future. And then he got a little too close for comfort to some floating girl.

Some floating.

I even took one when we were going down a waterslide!

More Camping

I got the waterproof camera developed and Kent lent me his scanner so I could scan them in (the PhotoCD option ended up with really poorly scanned photos).

We did a bunch of just floating around on our meganoodles.

We also did some climbing and jumping off of cliffs.

Camping

So we went camping at Pace Bend last weekend, and had a great time. Swimming, climbing up rocks, jumping off of rocks, sitting around a campfire, listening to the Camping Mix done by Kent, sleeping under the stars. Just good times.

When we got to the campsite we found that whoever had been there previously had left a tool there complete with a rustic-looking green cloth carrying case. As we examined it, we discovered that it was an amazing example of Russian ingenuity -- simply by screwing different elements into a variety of places, you could make an axe, a shovel, a spatula, a hammer, or a pickaxe. When in spatula/pickaxe mode it looked quite evil, so we ended up calling it the Ukrainian Death Implement.

Also, if anyone needs any extras for a zombie movie, give me a call after a day of camping.

I'm getting the waterproof camera developed tomorrow, so I'll have more photos soon!

Unemployment

Unemployment. The perfect time to get stuff done. But instead, you sit around all day and take pictures of your cats.

Angel and Buffy

So after a probably unhealthy amount of watching Angel and Buffy episodes (there were about 250 episodes between the two shows), we finally finished both series.

Of the two, Buffy clearly remained past its prime. The last two seasons, in particular, were real departures from the initial snarky, angsty seasons. There's a fine line between angst and mopeyness, and and the last two seasons fell squarely into the mopey category. Television Without Pity helped for those less-than-excellent seasons, though.

After watching a couple of the first few Angel DVD commentaries it's amazing how much the show changed. Initially much more about life in the big city, it morphed away from the private-eye help-the-helpless motif into a couple major story arcs heavy on prophecies and alternate dimensions. And then finished in probably one the best series finales that I've seen.

All in all, the first four or so seasons of Buffy and all of Angel were pretty worthwhile. And if you haven't seen Firefly you really should. Buy or rent or borrow the DVDs, watch them in order, give it a chance, and you'll love it.

Oh, and Joss Whedon does the best commentaries. Interesting, self-mocking, funny. Good stuff.
